Is there an app for that?

I am delighted that my latest journal article, '"Is there an app for that?" Exploring games and apps among heritage language families" has been published by the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development.

The article reports on a questionnaire study with 212 families, followed up with 10 family interviews, seeking to understand how families use technology, apps and games to support heritage language development, including the attitudes and expectations parents have, and how their views might differ from their children. Overall, findings show that parents view "traditional" resources (such as books) as an opportunity for shared family time in the heritage language, whereas expectations of technology are much greater, since they are hoped to motivate children to engage with the heritage language, they are expected to help children improve, and, largely, they are meant to do this independently of parental input. The study is Open Access, so you can read it in full here:
